Gavin Newsom to meet with Trump about fire aid at White House on Wednesday
The trip also comes as Newsom is expected to sign legislation that designates $50 million for legal battles with the Trump administration
California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom on Tuesday left the state to meet with President Donald Trump and members of the Trump administration at the White House on Wednesday, regarding federal funding for the Los Angeles County wildfire recovery.
Newsom has recently reestablished his relationship with Trump after the new president met with the governor in California last month. Trump previously promised to work with Newsom to help Los Angeles county recover from the wildfires.
The governor was most recently in Washington D.C. at the end of the Biden administration to ask former President Joe Biden to approve a series of waivers on healthcare and the environment, according to Politico.
The trip, which could include a stop on Capitol Hill as well, comes after the pair had phone conversations recently that both parties described as "cordial."
The trip also comes as Newsom is expected to sign legislation that designates $50 million for legal battles with the Trump administration, as the two feud on illegal immigration. California is considered a sanctuary state.
