Jens-Frederik Nielsen, prime minister of Greenland, rejected U.S. President Donald Trump's prediction that the U.S. will eventually control the territory.

Trump has said controlling Greenland is of strategic importance to the U.S. for national security and trade.

“President Trump says that the United States ‘will get Greenland.’ Let me be clear: The United States will not get it. We do not belong to anyone else. We decide our own future,” Jens-Frederik Nielsen wrote in a Facebook post.

In a recent interview, Trump addressed the U.S. taking control of Greenland, saying that "there’s a good possibility that we could do it without military force."
