Jill Biden admits president's dropping reelection bid was the 'right call'
Jill Biden said that it was time for her husband to step away from politics, after a five-decade career, and begin a new journey with her.
First Lady Jill Biden on Monday admitted that President Joe Biden made the right decision in dropping his bid for reelection, and endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris.
The president was pressured to drop his bid earlier this year after a poor performance during the presidential debate against former President Donald Trump. His performance prompted questions and scrutiny regarding his mental ability to serve another four years as the country's commander-in-chief.
Jill Biden said that it was time for her husband to step away from politics, after a five-decade career, and begin a new journey with her.
"It’s time for something new," the first lady told ABC News. "It was the right call ... I've had such a great four years and Joe and I, I mean really it has been the honor of our lives. It'll be tough to maybe step away from it, but we're starting a new chapter of our lives."
"We’ve been in politics 50 years. I think we’re ready for the new journey," she continued.
Jill Biden, who has been campaigning recently for Harris, also expressed confidence in Harris defeating Trump next month, even as the race remains close in the final weeks of the election.
"There's a lot of energy out there," Jill Biden said. "Kamala Harris is going to win this, and it's going to be just another chapter for the White House."
Harris has also been under scrutiny from Republicans over her assurances about the president's mental condition before the debate, and her defense of his ability to lead the country. She also sidestepped recent questions about the president's mental fitness, claiming that he had the experience to be president, but that he was not on the ballot this November.
