Jimmy Carter, 39th president, to be honored with events in Georgia, Washington
Details on the upcoming events are still being worked out and are being handled by the Joint Task Force-National Capital Region
Former President Jimmy Carter, who died Sunday at 100, will be honored in both Georgia and Washington, D.C., in the coming days.
He will be interred in Plains, Ga., where he spent most of his life with his beloved wife Rosalynn.
Details on the upcoming events are still being worked out and are being handled by the Joint Task Force-National Capital Region, according to The Hill.
President Joe Biden said in March of 2023 that Carter had asked him to deliver his eulogy when the time arrived.
“I spent time with Jimmy Carter and it’s finally caught up with him, but they found a way to keep him going for a lot longer than they anticipated because they found a breakthrough,” Biden said at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser.
The Carter Center has encouraged anyone wishing to remember Carter to visit an official tribute website, at www.jimmycartertribute.org, home to a condolence book and commemorations of his life.
The center also said the Carter family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Carter Center, 453 John Lewis Freedom Parkway N.E., Atlanta, GA 30307.
