Joe Biden slams Trump over hurricane 'misinformation'
The president slammed Trump and other Republicans for allegedly pushing "misinformation" about the federal response to the storms, such as claims that people's properties are allegedly being confiscated, or that money for disaster relief is going to illegal immigrants instead.
President Joe Biden slammed former President Donald Trump on Wednesday for spreading alleged misinformation regarding Hurricane Milton, which is expected to make landfall in Florida on Wednesday evening.
Biden postponed a trip to Germany and Angola in southern Africa this week in order to help oversee the federal response to hurricanes Helene and Milton, per CBS News. He has also approved emergency declarations in Florida for the pending hurricane, and has offered to provide local officials with whatever is needed to keep their communities safe.
The president also slammed Trump and other Republicans for allegedly pushing "misinformation" about the federal response to the storms, such as claims that people's properties are allegedly being confiscated, or that money for disaster relief is going to illegal immigrants instead. Biden said these claims are "harmful to those who need help the most."
"Former President Trump has led the onslaught of lies," Biden said in an address. "It's beyond ridiculous. It's got to stop. Moments like this, there are no red or blue states, there's one United States of America, where neighbors are helping neighbors, volunteers and first responders are risking everything, including their own lives, to help their fellow Americans."
The hurricane is currently located about 50 miles southwest of Sarasota, Florida, according to CNN. It is considered a Category 3 storm with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph.
