Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said on Tuesday that the transcript from special counsel Robert Hur's interviews with President Joe Biden shows that Biden broke the law regarding the handling of classified documents.

"I think the transcript itself revealed a lot," Gingrich said on the "John Solomon Reports" podcast. "It's very clear that for a very long period of time, Joe Biden was breaking the law, and that he was routinely taking secret documents."

Hur was appointed special counsel by the Justice Department to look into Biden's handling of classified documents after he left the Obama White House in 2017.

He testified before Congress on Tuesday that Biden "willfully" retained classified documents, implying that the president lied to reporters when he said he did not share that information.

"I think what comes across is the level of arrogance and contempt," Gingrich said. "Imagine keeping secret documents in a cardboard box next to your Corvette on the ground in the garage."

Biden was accused of keeping classified documents in his garage last year, but defended himself by saying that it was "locked."
