Trump discusses trade and future WH visit with Indian Prime Minister Modi

President Donald Trump on Monday spoke with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the U.S.'s and India's relationship, and plans for the prime minister to visit the White House during the current administration.
The call did not include a specific date for the pending visit, but the leaders discussed a range of regional issues, including security in the Indo-Pacific, the Middle East and Europe, according to the White House. Trump also encouraged India to increase its procurement of American-made security equipment in an effort to balance the trade relationship between the two countries.
The two leaders also doubled down on their friendship, which began during Trump's first term in office. Trump attended a rally with Modi in Houston in 2019, and visited India in 2020.
"The leaders discussed plans for Prime Minister Modi to visit the White House, underscoring the strength of the friendship and strategic ties between our nations," the White House said in a readout of the call. "Both leaders emphasized their commitment to advance the U.S.-India strategic partnership and the Indo-Pacific Quad partnership."
The quad alliance consists of Australia, India, Japan and the United States. India will host the annual Quad summit later this year, after the U.S. held the 2024 summit in September. The U.S. also held the 2025 Foreign Ministers meeting earlier this month.
