Former President Trump received at least $7.8 million in payments from foreign governments while president, according to a report released Thursday by Democrats on the House Oversight Committee.
The lawmakers said the amount covers only two of the four years Trump was in the White House, which was all that they could review, and that 20 foreign governments made the payments to Trump's businesses, according to several news outlets.
Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin, the committee's top Democrat, wrote in the report's foreword that China was the leading spender, which according to the report paid over $5.5 million to the Trump-owned properties.
Other countries that made payments included Afghanistan, India, Kuwait, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.
The related Trump properties including his hotels in Washington, D.C., Las Vegas, and New York City, according to the report.
The information in the report reportedly comes from documents from Mazars USA, Trump's former accounting firm and reportedly took Democrats years of litigation to obtain.
Trump's 2024 presidential campaign did not reply to a request for comment by NBC News.
