Trump says US will take over the Gaza Strip and 'level the site'

“The US will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it too,” Trump said in the briefing.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday evening announced that the United States will take over the Gaza strip and be responsible for clearing all of the unexploded ordinances.

The announcement occurred during a press briefing with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, following a meeting between the pair in the Oval Office. The Gaza Strip has been largely devastated by Israel's war with the terrorist organization Hamas.

“The US will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it too,” Trump said in the briefing. “We’ll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site. Level the site, and get rid of the destroyed buildings. We will create an economic development that will supply unlimited numbers of jobs and housing for the people of the area, do a real job, do something different.”

The comment comes after Trump, earlier Tuesday, urged Palestinians to leave the area and said they should resettle elsewhere.

Trump also slammed the Biden administration in his opening remarks, claiming “nobody did anything for four years," which caused "grave damage" all over the globe, per the Associated Press.

Netanyahu praised Trump in his remarks, stating that the president is "greatest friend Israel has ever had in the White House.”
