White House confirms Hunter Biden was present at speech prep meeting
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the first son was with President Joe Biden at Camp David over the past weekend, and returned with the president for his address.
The White House on Tuesday confirmed reports that first son Hunter Biden helped his father prepare for a key speech on Monday night after the Supreme Court ruled in favor of presidential immunity.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the first son was with President Joe Biden at Camp David over the past weekend, and returned with the president for his address.
“Hunter came back with him and walked with him into that meeting, that prep, that speech prep, and you know, and he ended up spending time with his dad and his family that night,” Jean-Pierre told reporters, the Washington Examiner reported. “That is basically what happened.”
The comment comes after four insiders told NBC News on Tuesday that Hunter Biden joined meetings with the president and top staffers since Monday night. One source also claimed Hunter Biden "popped into" a couple of meetings and phone calls the president has had with some of his advisers.
Another source questioned the reason that Hunter Biden would be present for the meetings, and said some senior White House staff are asking “What the hell is happening?”
It is not uncommon for a child of the president to be at the White House, but it is unusual for the younger Biden to be in and around meetings that his father is having with his team, the sources said.
The concern also comes after Hunter Biden was convicted on federal gun charges in Delaware last month.
Two other sources familiar with Hunter Biden's plans said he was at the White House for the Fourth of July holiday, according to the outlet.
The report comes after Democratic insiders panicked over the president's performance at the first presidential debate last week, which elevated concerns over whether Joe Biden is capable of serving another four years in office. Some key Democrats have called for him to drop out of the race over the debate performance, but the White House said he will remain in the race.
