The head of the International Monetary Fund is warning that rapidly advancing artificial intelligence could pose serious risks to the global financial system, particularly in the area of cybersecurity.

In an interview on Face the Nation, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva raised concerns about a powerful new AI model developed by Anthropic, cautioning that the technology could expose critical vulnerabilities across financial infrastructure.

Georgieva said the world is not adequately prepared to defend against large-scale cyber threats amplified by artificial intelligence, warning that “time is not our friend” as the risks continue to grow.

She noted that global financial systems currently lack the protections needed to withstand potential attacks driven or accelerated by advanced AI tools.
