Tens of thousands of residents of Gary, Indiana, are still without power nine days after a deadly storm downed trees and power lines on Aug. 11.

Residents of the town are throwing out spoiled food, lining up for hot meals and searching for places to charge their cell phones. They've utilized social media to put them in touch with supplies — everything from diapers to cleaning wipes — and services, ABC News reported

Northern Indiana Public Service Co. said 68,000 customers were still without power as of Thursday morning.

The utility said it has restored power to 306,500 others since Aug. 11, but power is not expected to be fully restored until Tuesday in some places, including Gary.
