Two people were pulled alive from the wreckage in Nepal on Saturday, 10 days after catastrophic floods and landslides devastated communities near the Nepal-China border.

A Chinese national was rescued from a hydropower tunnel in Rasuwa district, while a 64-year-old Nepali woman was found alive beneath the mud and debris of her home in Nuwakot district.

The separate rescues provided a remarkable sign of hope as emergency crews continue searching for thousands of people still missing after the disaster.

The Chinese man was discovered inside a tunnel at the Trishuli-3A hydropower project. Nepalese military personnel, assisted by South Korean disaster specialists, worked to reach him through the damaged underground facility.

He was eventually brought out of the tunnel and flown to Kathmandu for medical treatment. Officials said he was in stable condition.

The rescue marked the third worker pulled alive from the Trishuli hydropower complex since the floods struck.
