The Nebraska Legislature unanimously passed a ban on foreign funding in state ballot measures, which in effect closes a loophole long used by foreign actors seeking to manipulate state ballot measure campaigns.

Jason Snead, Executive Director of Honest Elections Project Action, released the following statement:

“Nebraska is about to become the tenth state to ban foreign spending in state ballot measures. For years, foreign nationals have exploited a loophole in federal law to launder millions in foreign dark money into ballot measure campaigns. That is why it is critical for states to take action. Honest Elections Project Action applauds the Nebraska Legislature for unanimously passing LB 1075 to close the foreign influence loophole and urges Governor Pillen to sign this critical bill and protect Nebraska’s elections from foreign interference.”
