The suspect also hit a food truck, causing a 39-year-old woman to be pinned beneath it, officials said.
A car crash injured at least nine people, including one New York Police Department officer, early Monday morning just blocks away from the Times Square’s New Year’s Eve celebration.
The collision occurred at 7th Avenue and West 34th Street around 1:30 a.m. local time, police said, just blocks away from where an estimated one million people watched the ball drop to bring in 2024 earlier that evening, police said, according to The New York Post.
Law enforcement had attempted to intervene in a dispute and a 44-year-old man fled the area in his vehicle, driving on the sidewalk and hitting six pedestrians, one police officer and multiple marked police cars, officials said.
The suspect also hit a food truck, causing a 39-year-old woman to be pinned beneath it, according to officials. She was taken to nearby Bellevue Hospital for treatment and is in stable condition, per authorities.
The police officer was transported to NYU Langone Health for medical treatment and he is listed as being in stable condition with a minor injury.
The six pedestrians were also treated at Bellevue.
Additionally, a taxi cab and two black sedans were discovered wrecked at the scene.
The driver was alone when apprehended and charges are pending against him.
