Man who killed 6 at Wisconsin Christmas parade sentenced to life in prison

The man convicted of killing six people at a Christmas parade last year in Wisconsin has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Darrell Brooks Jr. was on Wednesday given six consecutive life sentences for each first-degree intentional homicide count, Fox News reported.

The 41-year-old Brooks drove an SUV through the annual Christmas parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin, killing six people and injuring 62 others.

"There is nothing, no other word, that can best describe what happened on Nov. 21 of 2021 other than the word 'attack,'" Waukesha County Judge Jennifer Dorow said at the sentencing as Brooks glared and disrupted the proceedings. 

After more than an hour, Dorow kicked Brooks out of the courtroom for his outbursts, which were frequent throughout the trial in which he his own attorney. When Brooks returned to the courtroom on Wednesday, he began fighting with a jurist. 

Brooks later apologized for his actions during the trial.

"There was a part of me that felt that I haven’t been able to defend myself. I think it was just the pot boiling over. I was wrong for not being able to control myself the times that I wasn’t me," he said.
