Nine people wounded in D.C. July Fourth shooting
D.C. has been suffering from a surge in violence, police data shows.
Nine people were wounded, including two juveniles, in a shooting during a Fourth of July celebration early Wednesday in Washington, D.C., the Metropolitan Police Department said.
Officers responded shortly before 1 a.m. to a report of a shooting in Northeast D.C., Assistant Chief Leslie Parsons said.
First responders discovered multiple victims upon arrival, including a 9-year-old and a 17-year-old, the assistant chief also said.
D.C. Fire and EMS transported several victims to area hospitals and other victims went to the hospitals on their own. None of the victims suffered from life-threatening injuries, officials said.
Police are searching for information on a dark-colored SUV that drove through the neighborhood. The vehicle stopped and opened fire in a targeted shooting directed toward the people celebrating the Fourth of July outside, Parsons also said.
The incident comes amid multiple shootings nationwide over the July Fourth weekend. Additionally, D.C. has been suffering from a surge in violence, police data shows.
