Patrick Mahomes' father arrested on DWI charge days before Super Bowl

The father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was arrested in Tyler, Texas, and charged with allegedly driving while intoxicated, according to online records from the Smith County Jail.
Patrick Mahomes Sr., 54, was released Sunday on $10,000 bond after being arrested Saturday and charged with "driving while intoxicated for the 3rd time or more, per jail records.
If shown at trial, the charge could be enhanced to a felony offense, which could carry a sentence of up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine, according to TLHW Law Firm, a Texas-based DWI defense firm.
Mahomes Sr., a former Major League Baseball pitcher, has been charged six times in Smith County since 2012 with driving while intoxicated, according to jail records.
Patrick Mahomes Jr. is set to compete with Kansas City in the Super Bowl on Feb. 11 against the San Francisco 49ers.
