Search warrant issued for Alec Baldwin's cell phone in 'Rust' shooting investigation
Authorities want Baldwin's phone "to search for any evidence relating to the death investigation of Halyna Hutchins," according to the affidavit.
Santa Fe Sheriff's Department obtained a warrant on Thursday to seize Alec Baldwin's cell phone as part of their investigation into the death of Halyna Hutchins.
The department wants Baldwin's phone "to search for any evidence relating to the death investigation of Halyna Hutchins," according to the affidavit obtained by Fox News Digital.
Law enforcement "believes there may be evidence on the phone due to individuals using cellular phones during and/or after the commission of crime(s)," the affidavit stated. "Such information, if it exists, may be material and relevant to this investigation."
Investigators were "also made aware there were several emails and text messages sent and received regarding the movie production 'Rust' in the course of interviews," the affidavit added.
Police reportedly had requested Baldwin's phone before but were told they needed to obtain a search warrant.
Cinematographer Hutchins was killed and director Joel Souza was wounded in a shooting Oct. 21 on the New Mexico film set of "Rust."
In an interview released Dec. 1, Baldwin claimed, "I didn’t pull the trigger" of the gun. The actor also said he does not feel guilt over the shooting. "Someone is responsible for what happened… I know it's not me. I mean, honest to God, if I felt that I was responsible, I might have killed myself."
