Spanish soccer star Hermoso files sexual assault complaint over federation president's unwanted kiss
Rubiales, who is suspended from his position as federation president, has said he will not resign.
Spanish soccer star Jenni Hermoso filed an official sexual assault complaint with prosecutors against Spain's soccer federation president, Luis Rubiales, after he kissed her without her consent as the team celebrated their Women's World Cup victory, officials said Wednesday.
"Yesterday, Ms. Jennifer Hermoso submitted a complaint for the events of which you are all aware," a spokesperson for the Spanish prosecutor's office said, according to CNN. "The national court’s prosecutor’s office will file a complaint as soon as possible."
Rubiales, who is suspended from his position as federation president, kissed Hermoso on the lips during the World Cup awards ceremony on Aug. 20, in Sydney, Australia.
Rubiales said after the incident that he will not resign.
News about the complaint comes after the Spanish soccer federation on Tuesday fired women's national team coach Jorge Vilda, who had supported Rubiales but later condemned his behavior.
