Atlanta Braves capture first World Series title in a quarter century

The Atlanta Braves, who battled through injuries, losing streaks and a politically driven loss of the All-Star Game in their home city, captured their first World Series title in a quarter century with a 7-0 win over the Houston Astros on Tuesday night.

Stars Jorge Soler and Freddie Freeman homered to back a signature pitching performance by Max Fried as Atlanta captured its fourth championship, and first since 1995 when a team of five future Hall of Famers led the marquee.

The win also punctuated a year when the team's most iconic star, the late great Hank Aaron, passed away and when a political uproar over Georgia's election law forced MLB to move the All-Star Game from Atlanta to Denver this summer.

The underdog Braves also overcame major injuries to batting star Ronald Acuna and pitching ace Charlie Morton on its way to victory.
