Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin was discharged from the Buffalo Medical Center/Gates Vascular Institute in New York on Wednesday after undergoing "a comprehensive medical evaluation," according to the team.

The NFL player went into cardiac arrest the night of Jan. 2 in an away game against the Cincinnati Bengals after making a tackle.

Hamlin was released Monday from the intensive care unit at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and  transferred to the New York center, according to The Buffalo News.

The Bills said Hamlin "went through a comprehensive medical evaluation as well as a series of cardiac, neurological and vascular testing on Tuesday."

"We have completed a series of tests and evaluations, and in consultation with the team physicians, we are confident that Damar can be safely discharged to continue his rehabilitation at home and with the Bills," said Dr. Jamie Nadler, who led the care team for Hamlin.
