Crew member sues Baldwin, "Rust" producers over Hutchins' death
Serge Svetnoy, the chief lighting technician for "Rust," formally filed the lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court
A crew member working on the movie “Rust” filed a lawsuit against Alec Baldwin and others, alleging that the shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins caused him “severe emotional distress."
Hutchins was killed by a loaded prop gun that Baldwin fired on the movie set in New Mexico on Oct. 21. Director Joel Souza was injured.
Serge Svetnoy, the chief lighting technician for "Rust," formally filed the lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday.
“This incident was caused by the negligent acts and omission of Defendants, and each of them, as well as their agents, principals, and employers,” the complaint read. “Simply put, there was no reason for a live bullet to be placed in that .45 Colt revolver to be present anywhere on the Rust set, and the presence of a bullet in a revolver posed a lethal threat to everyone in its vicinity."
Svetnoy is suing Baldwin, armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed, first assistant director Dave Halls, property master Sarah Zachry and weapons provider Seth Kenney.
“What a tragedy and injustice when a person loses her life on film set while making art,” Svetnoy said during a news conference.
