Buffalo Bills Damar Hamlin cleared to play football, after last season's on-field cardiac arrest

Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin was cleared to resume football after suffering a cardiac arrest during an NFL game last season, the team's general manager Brandon Beane said Tuesday.

"He's fully cleared. He's here, and he is of the mindset, he's in a great headspace to come back and make his return," Beane told reporters, according to NFL.com. 

Hamlin joined his teammates for offseason workouts Tuesday, his New York-based team said on Twitter.

Hamlin was in critical condition after suffering from a cardiac arrest on Jan. 2 during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals in Ohio.

After the incident, Hamlin's Chasing M's Foundation raised more than $9 million to support toy and back-to-school drives. Hamlin also met with lawmakers to garner support for a bill that would bring defibrillators, cardiac arrest training and CPR training to public schools.
