Former Capitol Police chief announces deal for Jan. 6 book

The former chief of the U.S. Capitol Police on Monday announced a book deal regarding the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. 

Former Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund's book, "Courage Under Fire: Under Siege and Outnumbered 58 to 1 on January 6," will be released on Jan. 3, 2023, almost exactly two years after the Jan. 6 riot, The Associated Press reported. 

"It's time to break my silence and reveal everything that I know happened," Sund said in a statement released by Blackstone Publishing.

Sund left the Capitol police force shortly after the riot. 

The month after the riot, he testified to Congress that he hadn't received adequate intelligence information ahead of time. 

"I do not believe that the U.S. Capitol Police failed," Sund wrote in a letter to Congress. "Greatly outnumbered and against tremendous odds, they kept the members safe." 

Sund's book will give "a detailed and harrowing minute-by-minute account of the attack" and follow his "extraordinary journey from his command post on January 6 to his explosive behind-closed-doors testimony before the January 6 committee," according to Blackstone.

Sund will also detail a "never-before-heard accounting of a call from the White House" during the riot and "never-before-detailed conversations" between congressional leadership and himself.
