Marlins make history by have a women as president and general manager

The Miami Marlins on Monday promoted Caroline O'Connor to president of business operations – making history as the first  Major League Baseball team to have a female president and general manager.

O'Conner joins Kim Ng, who the Marlins hired two years ago as its general manager, according to ESPN.

The Marlins made also history in hiring Ng because she became the first female general manager for any team in the North American Big Four leagues – MLB, the National Basketball Association, the National Football League, the National Hockey League.

Ng will run on-field business decisions while O'Connor will handle off-field decisions. Before joining the Marlins in 2017, O'Connor worked at IBM, Morgan Stanley and UBS Investment Bank. 

"We are fortunate to have someone with Carline's business acumen and vision leading our day-to-day business operations. Her passion and drive for success is unmatched in our game and the South Florida market," Marlins owner Bruce Sherman said.
