DMX, born Earl Simmons, suffered heart attack last week and did not recover.

He was in taken to a hospital in White Plains, N.Y., in "grave condition," his attorney, Murray Richman said Saturday.

"Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end," the family said in a statement. "He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time."

DMX had dealt with substance abuse and had been through rehab multiple times, the last being in 2019, following a 12-month prison sentence for tax evasion, according to ABC News.
