In an unexpected display of hostility, Axl Rose, the lead singer of Guns N' Roses, took a social media jab Wednesday evening at Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.

"It's official! Whatever anyone may have previously thought of Steve Mnuchin he's officially an [a**hole,]" tweeted the old school rocker.

Mnuchin retorted: "What have you done for the country lately?"

Rose later said, "unlike this admin I'm not responsible for 70k+ deaths n' unlike u I don't hold a fed gov position of responsibility 2 the American people n' go on TV tellin them 2 travel the US during a pandemic."

Though Rose's specific dissatisfaction with Mnuchin is unclear, he has been a vocal critic of President Trump and his administration for years. In 2016, Rose allowed fans at a concert to join him onstage to destroy a piñata in the likeness of Trump.

Mnuchin has been working on the U.S.'s economic response to the coronavirus pandemic since early March. He was one of the architects of the Paycheck Protection Program, has acted as a White House liaison during negotiations on the Hill, and been a key spokesperson of the administration's as more details emerge about the plan for the country's economic recovery.
