Golf legend Tiger Woods announced Tuesday that he will step away from sports to seek treatment as he faces another driving-under-the-influence charge, most recently in connection to a rollover crash Friday in Florida.

"I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today," Woods, 50, wrote in a statement on X. "I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery."

He was arrested after his Land Rover clipped a trailer and rolled over on a narrow, two-lane road near his residence on Jupiter Island. No injuries were reported. 

The sports icon pleaded not guilty to two misdemeanors, including driving under the influence with property damage, but a breathalyzer found no alcohol in his system. However, investigators believe drugs could be behind the impairment, and two hydrocodone pills were allegedly found in his pocket.

Investigators said Woods admitted to taking a couple of prescription pills before the crash but denied drinking alcohol.

"I'm committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally," Woods said in the statement. "I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time."

Woods was arrested in 2017 on a DUI charge after Florida police found him asleep behind the wheel of a damaged vehicle. He pleaded guilty to reckless driving.
