Breanna Gill, who is a biological male, received death threats after winning the Australian Women's Classic.
According to Fox News, the death threats caused Gill to delete her social media pages.
Women's Professional Golfers' Association (WPGA) Tour of Australasia chief Karen Lunn defended Gill in an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald.
"It's the biggest win of her life. It's really sad that she can't celebrate that win," Lunn said during the interview.
Lunn also noted that Gill met all policy requirements for transgender athlete participation, which include gender reassignment surgery, hormonal therapy for at least a year and legal documents acknowledging gender reassignment.
"Everyone's worried about her welfare," Lunn stated. "It's obviously a very tough time."
