Spain's men's soccer team defeated France in the 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-finals on Tuesday, becoming the first country to advance to the finals that will take place this weekend.

Spain defeated France in a 2-0 match in Texas and will face off against either Argentina or England on Sunday. The second match will take place on Wednesday. France will play the losing team for third place on Saturday. 

The 2026 World Cup took place in the United States, Canada and Mexico, with the U.S. hosting 78 of the 104 matches. The games were sprawled across 11 U.S. cities and five cities between Canada and Mexico. Team USA was eliminated in the quarterfinals. 

Spain's victory gives it its first chance to win another FIFA World Cup title in years, after it won its first and only trophy in 2010 during a 1-0 defeat over the Netherlands. 

The final match will take place at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
