Far-right Oath Keepers' attorney pleads guilty to Capitol riot charges
The attorney faces up to 20 years in prison
An attorney who represented the far-right Oath Keepers pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the January 6 Capitol riot.
Kellye SoRelle, formerly general counsel for the anti-government group, agreed Wednesday to the plea.
U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta scheduled sentencing for January 17, 2025, according to the Associated Press.
SoRelle pleaded guilty to felony obstruction of justice and misdemeanor entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds.
The felony charge has a maximum sentence of 20 years, but estimated sentencing guidelines recommend a maximum sentence of 16 months.
Authorities arrested SoRelle in Texas in 2022. Concerns about SoRelle's mental health delayed her case for months.
Over a year ago, experts found SoRelle mentally incompetent to stand trial. She reported for treatment to the federal Bureau of Prisons in November 2023. Mehta found her competent to stand trial last month.
