Pope Francis names first woman to lead a major Vatican office

Sister Simona Brambilla was appointed prefect of the Dicastery for Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life

Pope Francis on Monday appointed Sister Simona Brambilla, an Italian nun, to become prefect of the Dicastery for Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life.

The department carries out the Catholic Church’s religious orders, according to Vatican Media.

The Vatican Media report confirms she has become the first woman prefect in the Vatican.
