Pope Francis was seen for the first time on Sunday since his hospitalization with double pneumonia.

The pope, 88, addressed the crowds from his balcony at the Gemelli hospital in Rome, Italy.

He was first admitted to the hospital on February 14 with a respiratory tract infection and double pneumonia.

The Vatican said on Saturday that the pope is in stable condition. He has been released from the hospital.

He addressed the crowd outside of the hospital from the balcony, thanked them and gave a blessing.

He waved and gave a thumbs up.

Dr. Sergio Alfieri said on Saturday that Pope Francis will need to at least two months of rest to fully recover. The pope has been advised not to overexert himself or meet in large groups.
