Pope Francis is still in critical condition on Sunday and blood tests point to signs of "mild" kidney failure but it's "currently under control,” the Vatican said on Sunday.

"The conditions of the Holy Father remain critical; however, since last evening he has not presented any further respiratory crises. He took the two units of concentrated red blood cells with benefit and with an increase in the hemoglobin value," the statement read. "Thrombocytopenia remained stable; however, some blood tests demonstrate an initial, mild, renal insufficiency, which is currently under control. High flow oxygen therapy continues through nasal cannulas."

He "continues to be vigilant and well oriented," the Vatican said. 

The pope has been fighting double pneumonia. 

"The complexity of the clinical picture, and the necessary wait for pharmacological therapies to provide some feedback, require that the prognosis remain reserved," the statement read. "During the morning, in the apartment set up on the 10th floor, he participated in the Holy Mass, together with those who are taking care of him during these days of hospitalization."
