NASA rocket collides with asteroid

National Aeronautics and Space Administration launched an experimental spacecraft on a successful mission to collide with an asteroid.

The Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) spacecraft was scheduled to collide with the asteroid Dimorphos at 7:15 p.m. EST, according to NASA.

The mission stayed on track despite the coming of Hurricane Ian.

The successful DART launch may provide a roadmap for the prevention of terrestrial collisions with celestial objects in the future.
