DeSantis warns looters: ‘We’re a Second Amendment state’
‘Don’t even think about looting,’ governor tells would-be criminals.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Friday issued a pointed notice to aspiring looters in the state, warning them to refrain from criminal activity in the wake of Hurricane Ian due to the high concentration of firearms in private hands throughout the region.
Ian pummeled much of the southern portion of the state earlier this week, plunging millions of residents into darkness and rendering at least one town, Fort Myers Beach, reportedly almost completely uninhabitable.
At a press conference on Friday, DeSantis spoke approvingly of a “You Loot, We Shoot” sign he had witnessed while touring a devastated area.
"We are a law and order state, and this is a law and order community," the governor said. "So do not think that you're going to take advantage of people who've suffered misery."
At another press conference on Friday he said Florida was a “Second Amendment state.”
"I can tell you in the state of Florida, you never know what may be lurking behind somebody's home," he said. "And I would not want to chance that if I were you.”
