Florida grand jury finds no evidence of criminal activity related to COVID-19 vaccines
The report said although the jury found no evidence of illegal activity, it still found problems with the vaccine process and recommended the state increases transparency around clinical trials and bans ads for pharmaceutical drugs.
A Florida grand jury report that was unsealed on Tuesday found no evidence of any criminal activity related to the COVID-19 vaccines, but said there were "serious issues" that needed to be addressed.
Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis sought the investigation in 2022 when he was running for the Republican nomination for president. The grand jury was tasked with investigating “any and all wrongdoing” related to the vaccines.
Grand juries in Florida can investigate criminal activity, examine systemic problems in the state, and make policy recommendations.
The report said although the jury found no evidence of illegal activity, it still found problems with the vaccine process and recommended that the state increase transparency around clinical trials and ban ads for pharmaceutical drugs, the Associated Press reported.
“(N)ot finding any indictable criminal activity does not mean we did not find any problems," the grand jury wrote. "On the contrary, there are profound and serious issues involving the process of vaccine development and safety surveillance in the United States."
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) maintains that the vaccines underwent proper safety analyses and that boosters are still monitored, even after FDA approval.
