Georgia AG urges state Supreme Court not to pick up Fani Willis' appeal case
Carr also asked Willis to focus on prosecuting violent criminals in her district rather than focusing on Trump, who was elected back to the White House last month.
Georgia's Republican Attorney General Chris Carr on Monday recommended that the state's Supreme Court not listen to Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’s appeal of her disqualification from prosecuting President-elect Donald Trump.
The state's Court of Appeals disqualified Willis from prosecuting the 2020 election interference case earlier this month over her previous romantic relationship with prosecutor Nathan Wade, who she hired for the case. Wade has already resigned over the alleged conflict of interest.
The court did not dismiss the indictment, but the case is not expected to be prosecuted before Trump is sworn into office next month.
Carr claimed that Willis created the conflict of interest situation herself by hiring Wade and was "rightfully removed."
“Lawfare has become far too common in American politics, and it must end. As such, I would encourage the Georgia Supreme Court to not take her appeal,” Carr wrote in a statement posted to X.
Carr also asked Willis to focus on prosecuting violent criminals in her district rather than focusing on Trump, who was elected back to the White House last month. He will be sworn in on Jan. 20.
