Gov. Newsom vetos legislation to give $150K down payment to illegal immigrants to buy a home

California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom vetoed a bill that would have down payments to illegal immigrants for them to purchase a home.
The legislation, Assembly Bill 1840, would give illegal aliens up to $150,000 in down payments to purchase a home.
Newsom announced on Friday that he was unable to sign the bill, according to the New York Post.
“Given the finite funding available for [California Housing Finance Agency] programs, expanding program eligibility must be carefully considered within the broader context of the annual state budget to ensure we manage our resources effectively,” Newsom wrote in a statement.

"This should have never been an option. I’m surprised, but glad to see Gov Newsom has vetoed this," San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond wrote on the social media platform, X.
