A 4.2 magnitude earthquake arly Wednesday morning off the South California coastal city of Malibu rocked Los Angeles County, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The initial earthquake less than 10 miles off the Malibu coast struck at 2 a.m. local time. Three minutes later, a second quake with a 3.6 magnitude shook the area. Two more aftershocks came that hour, both with a 2.8 magnitude or less, data shows.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said tsunamis do not pose a threat after the quakes.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department tweeted that there are no reports of damages or injuries, but used the quake to "encourage residents to be prepared & get their emergency supply kits together" for future natural disasters.
