Mega Millions $1.58 billion winning ticket sold in Florida
The winner could choose to receive the jackpot over 29 gradually increasing annual payments or through a lump sum of $783.3 million, both before taxes.
The winning ticket for the record-breaking $1.58 billion Mega Millions estimated jackpot was sold in Florida, the lottery said.
After 31 drawings without a jackpot win, the streak ended Tuesday with the winning white balls 13, 19, 20, 32 and 33 and the gold Mega Ball of 14.
A Publix supermarket in Neptune Beach, Fla., sold the winning ticket, CNN reported, citing the state's lottery.
"Pending final sales reconciliations across all 47 participating lotteries, Tuesday night’s jackpot win is expected to set a new record for [the] game," the lottery said.
The previous Mega Millions record was a $1.537 billion ticket sold in South Carolina in 2018. If Tuesday's Mega Millions jackpot surpasses that of 2018, it will be the third-largest U.S. lottery jackpot ever, according to The Associated Press.
Lottery jackpots over $1 billion are rare, but most recently, a winning Powerball ticket with a jackpot of $1.08 billion was sold in Los Angeles.
The winner could choose to receive the jackpot over 29 gradually increasing annual payments or through a lump sum of $783.3 million, both before taxes, according to the lottery.
