Some Republican-led states aren't letting federal poll monitors into polling locations
A spokesperson from the Texas GOP secretary of state said that the monitors will be sent to "various locations" throughout the Lone Star State.
Federal poll monitors will not be allowed at some voting locations on Election Day in red states, according to officials.
The Department of Justice often deploys federal poll monitors across the U.S. on Election Day to "help assess compliance with federal voting laws," according to ABC News.
A spokesperson for the Texas GOP secretary of state told the outlet that the monitors are not authorized to be inside the polling locations.
The spokesperson said that state monitors will be sent to "various locations" throughout the Lone Star State.
Texas Democrats have objected to this decision and wrote a letter to GOP Gov. Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton objecting to it.
In other states such as Arkansas and Missouri, federal monitors will also not be permitted to be at polling locations on Election Day.
In 2022, the Florida Department of State argued that monitors inside the polling place would "be counterproductive and could potentially undermine confidence in the election."
