Rodeo bull escapes, injures six people in California

Rodeo professionals were able to capture the bull less than half a mile from the arena

Six people were injured Friday night at a Northern California rodeo when a bull leaped over the fence and escaped the arena.

The incident happened during the final portion of the bull riding event, the Redding Rodeo said in a press release.

After the rider fell off, a video shows that cowboys attempted to lasso the bull but were unable to do so before it jumped the arena fence.

The bull hit six people, sending one to the hospital, police said, according to KRCR. The remaining injured spectators were treated immediately on the scene and sent home with minor injuries.

The rodeo's announcer "immediately activated the emergency response plan," authorities stated.

The rogue bull ran out of the rodeo grounds toward the public parking area, and rodeo professionals were able to capture the bull by the Sundial Bridge, less than half a mile from the Redding, Calif., rodeo grounds.

"We wish the best to all those affected," the rodeo wrote. "The safety of our fans is our highest priority and we appreciate their support."
