Tesla recalls more than a hundred thousand cars over door concerns
The automotive company became aware of these issues earlier this month while conducting a routine crash test.
Tesla is recalling over 120,000 vehicles due to issues with doors and safety concerns, safety regulators say.
The problem, according to CNN, exists in some 2021-2023 Model S and X vehicles in the United States, citing a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) filing. Safety regulators are concerned about unlocked doors potentially opening during a car crash, resulting in potential injuries.
The automotive company became aware of these issues earlier this month while conducting a routine crash test.
Notification letters are expected to be sent to the owners of those vehicles in February, 2024, but the company has already sent out an over-the-air (OTA) software update for cars affected by the safety defect.
Last week, Tesla recalled about two million vehicles in the U.S. in order to limit the use of its Autopilot feature due to some other concerns.
According to the NHTSA, the Autopilot feature can sometimes give drivers a false sense of security on the road and may be misused in dangerous situations.
Tesla is the most valuable automaker in the world by far, with a market cap of more than $791 billion, according to CNN.
Despite some setbacks, Tesla shares are up 105% in 2023 overall, but have been down 1.6% in the last few months.
