The advertiser pullout comes amid an ongoing lawsuit from X against Media Matters for America over an article it published showing ads for the company's major advertisers next to antisemitic materials.

Retail giant Walmart on Friday announced that it would cease advertising on social media platform X after owner Elon Musk advised companies not to do so if they intended to use their money to influence him.

"Don't advertise. If someone is going to try and blackmail me with advertising? Blackmail me with money? Go f--- yourself," Musk said earlier this week.

"We aren’t advertising on X as we’ve found some other platforms better reach our customers," the company told The Hill. The retail giant did not reference Musk's remarks.

The advertiser pullout comes amid an ongoing lawsuit from X against Media Matters for America over an article it published showing ads for the company's major advertisers next to antisemitic materials. X has alleged that the company manipulated its algorithm to produce the results and presented a false narrative about the frequency of the pairings.
