Chief of staff to former NYC Mayor Adams charged with accepting bribes
Carone allegedly leveraged his position to commit multiple acts of bribery, wire fraud and money laundering, according to the indictment.
Frank Carone, who was a chief of staff to former New York City Mayor Eric Adams, was charged with accepting more than $100,000 in bribes in exchange for steering a lucrative migrant shelter contract to a Queens hotel, according to a federal indictment unsealed on Wednesday.
The indictment comes on the same day that federal authorities executed search warrants related to a separate bribery investigation involving other high-ranking officials in the Adams administration, the Associated Press reported.
Carone allegedly leveraged his position to commit multiple acts of bribery, wire fraud and money laundering, according to the indictment. His brother, Anthoney Carone, as well as the owner of the Queens hotel, Yan Po Zhu, and an employee of the hotel, Crystal Chen, were also charged.
They each face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
