Former Maine Senate President Troy Jackson on Wednesday announced his bid to replace Graham Platner as the Democratic Party's Senate nominee.

Platner dropped out of the race on Wednesday evening in the wake of a sexual assault allegation. His campaign had been marred by other scandals, including a Nazi Totenkopf tattoo, extramarital sexting, bizarre Reddit posts, and more. The process to replace him remains somewhat unclear, but candidates are lining up for the role.

"There is a powerful movement of working class people in the state of Maine, and millions more across America who are ready to send a progressive fighter to the Senate," Jackson posted on X. "I’ve been fighting for that movement my whole life — and I’m sure as hell not backing down now, when this fight is needed most.

I’m in. And we're going to defeat Susan Collins. Maine deserves a Senator that will fight for working families."

Jackson previously sought the party nomination for governor, but was unsuccessful.
