The complaint claimed that Planned Parenthood's offer of free abortions and vasectomies at the Democratic convention were a clear endorsement of a specific political party and its candidates, which violates Planned Parenthood's nonprofit status.

A pro-life group on Wednesday filed a complaint with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) against Planned Parenthood, claiming its offer of free abortions and vasectomies at the Democratic convention violates its status as a nonprofit.

Attendees were offered the free procedures on Monday and Tuesday, after the Planned Parenthood clinic at Great Rivers, which covers parts of Missouri and Illinois, stationed its mobile health clinic near the convention center.

The complaint claimed that the actions were a clear endorsement of a specific political party, and its candidates, which violates the nonprofit status.

"Targeting political parties and candidates with free abortions and other in-kind gifts is strictly prohibited by the IRS — a basic rule that every nonprofit understands," 40 Days for Life CEO Shawn Carney told Fox News. "Planned Parenthood’s recklessness on such a public stage is astounding."

Carney added that the Democratic National Committee was also sending a "dark and somewhat goofy message" to its supporters by making abortion the top issue for voters ahead of the November elections.

Democrats have made abortion one of its biggest priorities this campaign cycle, after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, claiming Republicans want to federally ban abortions. But former President Donald Trump has said he will leave the matter to individual states.
