President-elect Donald Trump on Friday called on the government to explain the recent string of large-scale drone sightings across the nation or otherwise shoot them down.

"Mystery Drone sightings all over the Country. Can this really be happening without our government’s knowledge. I don think so! Let the public know, and now. Otherwise, shot them down!!! DJT" he posted on Truth Social.

Democratic and Republican lawmakers alike have demanded an explanation for the suspicious aircraft, with Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand, Cory Booker, Andy Kim, and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer asking key federal officials for a briefing on the matter.

Gov. Phil Murphy, D-N.J., moreover has asked the Biden administration for help dealing with the aircraft.

"I respectfully urge you to continue to direct the federal agencies involved to work together until they uncover answers as to what is behind the UAS (unmanned aircraft systems) sightings," he said.

Federal officials have thus far not explained the activity of the drones.
